Just so everyone is aware, that package insert is available to the public upon request. It is not a “secret” that they are trying to hide. They (the pharmaceutical companies) are required by law to list all side effects that have been reported after administration of a drug regardless of whether or not cause and effect were proven. As for anaphylaxis, how is this a surprise to anyone? Tons of stuff causes anaphylaxis… I’d say peanut butter is responsible for more anaphylaxis than this vaccine. This article is just spreading fear. Maybe H1N1 wasn’t the most necessary vaccine but it certainly isn’t unsafe.

My disclaimer: I am not a medical professional. I do not have asthma. I believe that children should have medical vaccinations so that the diseases that killed can stay in submission. I have a fair level of trust for medical professionals. I do not take flu shots because I want my body to be able to fight the flu so that it can be prepared for the strains to come. I am greiving. So, with that in mind… My Mother and Sister took the H1N1 shot after waiting patiently for it. They both suffer from asthma. I did not want them to take the shot but did not campaign them not to. My Mother is fine, my Sister died within 36 hours. She had gone to bed and was found 45 minutes later on her bedroom floor, breathing treatment still running in the bathroom. She had obviously had trouble breathing and when her breathing treatment machine did not work, she tried to get help but collapsed (Orthostatic hypotension? Guillain-Barré syndrome?). Please think before throwing around numbers like 100.. to 1. Because your audience is vast and someone who loves the 1 could be reading this. My Sister was probably the 1. I BELIEVE THAT IF SHE WOULD NOT HAVE GOTTEN THE SHOT THAT SHE WOULD NOT HAVE DIED THAT DAY, AND THAT SHE WOULD NOT HAVE CONTRACTED H1N1 EITHER. I know of no one who has died from H1N1 (and I am greatful). I know of an 18 month old that had H1N1 and is fine. I know of 2 loved ones who took the shot and one died. IF the risks are so small why aren’t the disclaimers on a large poster in every doctors office? Withheld information is tantamount to lying. Picture this, your doctor or nurse or pharmacist is poised over you, syringe in hand filled with H1N1. They look you in the eye and honestly say to you “If I give you this shot, you are risking death. You could be dead in days.” Would you take it? Would you pause? Would you think, I won’t be the one? My Daughter called me from her pediatricians office the month after my Sister died. The Dr wanted to give my Grandson the H1N1 shot, what should she do? I said no, keep him away from crowds until the flu season is over. My Grandson is fine, with no shot. So, those that throw around those numbers that prove that the risks of taking the vaccine is small compared to not taking it, who say I took it I am fine which one of your loved ones do you want to nominate to be the 1? It’s such a small number, such a small risk, who’s it gonna be? It’s easy to be so righteous when you don’t know and love the 1 in so many that will die. My Sister was not sick before taking the shot, she got a kudos from her Dr for her GREATLY improved health, but she died after the shot. I greatly wish that all that read this (and all that don’t) will not get the flu, will not lose a loved one from the flu. I wish that no one else suffers at all. But pick your 1 and give me my 1 back. Oh yeah..at my Sisters funeral an EMT came to me and told me that people with the health history of my Sister are being told not to take the shot, due to the risks of the side effects. But not by the Doctors or those that benefit from the perks of using the pharmaceutical companies products, but by those who have no direct contact with those companies.

Such dedicated vaccine takers here, as if it’s going to save them. Maybe the placebo effect will help them. The crux of the issue is the refusal to get healthy and instead take a shot/pill instead. Assuming the vaccine works, it will backfire eventually and you will be taken down by something, because your immune system learns to be weak and never has to do the job. And the resistance is only temporary. It will come back to get you later!
The other approach I advocate is getting your system strong so you can survive easily, not even getting sick. This requires the basics, optimal vitamin D levels of 80, not 15 like most have. Then you need sleep and exercise, food without pesticide poisons that weaken the immune system, no crappy sweetners like corn syrup, minimal sugar, etc. THen there are various proven herbal antivirals like elderberry.

THhere is so much one can do without vaccines- why take the vaccine risk? Vaccines have been shown recently to be of ZERO benefit to death rates for elderly- turns out it was the healthy patient effect, the healthy ones got the vaccine and didn’t get sick anyway. The ones who didn’t get the vaccine were sickly and we going to die anyway.

Vaccines are a complete scam and is just short term thinking for lazy sheeple.

I almost died after receiving the h1n1 vaccine. My immune system was completely compromised. I was hospitalised, with severe neumonia. My lung is collapsed at the bottom and there is still fluid inside and even outside. It has been almost two months, and I am still really sick. I was perfectly healthy until the injection entered my body. I only went for the shot to protect a family pregnancy, because of the hype. I never get regular flu shots.
customers at work were exhaling in my face and then telling me about the h1n1 at their house. As it turns out doctors were saying this with no blood test, as the first doctor I saw claimed I got the shot too late and sent me home with tamiflu. Let me stress I had no such thing. It was and most likley still is very aggressive neumonia. I was protecting a baby from what was lies. thank you.

Lol. Consider the following two arguments:

“Take fish oil. Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), one of the omega 3 fatty acids found in fish oil supplements, is a potent immune suppressant. If you take high dose EPA you will be more susceptible to infections, because it is a powerful immune suppressant.”

“Avoid the oils that significantly suppress immunity and increase inflammation – such as corn, safflower, sunflower, soybean, canola and peanut oils.”

What kind of doctor would recommend both taking an immune suppressant oil and not taking immune suppressant oils? And why take an immune suppressant? You’ve been injected with a virus. If you take an immune suppressant, your body won’t fight as well!

I had the H1N1 vaccine on Wednesday and on the way home started to have what felt like terrible heartburn/chest pain. Not unusual for me to have weird things so went home and ate something and laid down. As the day went on I couldn’t figure out what I did to hurt my left shoulder blade muscle, it was burning and felt like I had really pulled it badly. It has gotten somewhat better thankfully. Thursday I was achy and while grocery shopping I starting to have excruciating abdominal stabbing pains. Today my right eye was twitching so badly that I couldn’t focus my eye and am exhausted, have diarrhea and feel generally crummy. I have health problems so its possible that it has just kicked my butt by adding the vaccine. I thought it was interesting though that the second comment I read also had the same shoulder and eye twitch problem. I don’t have insurance so for me, the side effects risks are better than a huge hospital bill if I end up with the flu. There are always side effects, its just harder when they are new vaccines without a long history of testing.

I have several points to make
1) The chance of dying from H1N1 is actually small
2) The chance of dying from H1N1, although small, is still much bigger than the risk of serious side effects from the vaccine
3) Most of the side effects reported by the above patients eg cough, cold, bell’s palsy etc are common events which occur on a daily basis in the general population. When you mass vaccinate a population over a short period of time, you are bound to find cases who would by chance developed these occurences soon after vaccination. Take the example of miscarriage during pregnancy. The chance of miscarriage over a pregancy is 15%. Therefore, for every 10,000 pregant women who had the vaccine, you would expect 1500 to miscarry anyway. Divide 1500 by 280 days (40 weeks x 7 days), you would expect ~ 5 of these pregant women to misccary by chance within 1 day of the vaccine. These 5 subjects would no doubt attribute their misfortune to the vaccine and come onto this website and tell you not to get the vaccine.
4) I totally agree with someone’s comments from above that you have to take responsibility for your decisions. It’s your choice whether you want to be vaccinated. The risk of GBS is 1 in a million. It’s tough luck if you do get it. I made the choice to vaccinate myself and the entire family against H1N1 and I don’t regret it.

My 8 year old daughter received the H1N1 vaccine on 11/30/09. It was a tough decision to make, however, she has Asthma so my husband and I
decided to have her vaccinated. Unfortunately, I wish I could take it back. She started having severe uncontrollable body movements that
night while she was sleeping and it has not stopped. Today is 12/31/09 and it still continues. She has been seen by a Neurologist who does not know what is going on. We took her to the ER and they did blood work and checked her urine (which all came back normal). She
is scheduled for an EEG and MRI. All we can do is hope and pray that this will go away and not progress. In the meantime, we regret our decision and are very, very sad and scared. To watch our baby go through this is awful. I would not wish this on my worst enemy.

WOW. Amazing! Just reading through some of the comments here, and it seems a lot of people are into attack mode. Maybe my reading skills are limited, and I’ve missed the whole point of this post (although I hope not, since I make my living as a writer). But it seems to me that the main message is: here are things you can do to minimize the risk of side effects from the H1N1 shot. Not “don’t get it, it’s a conspiracy” or any of the other negative things the author has been accused of.

This is actually useful information, whether you decided to get the shot or not. If you do, then the suggestions for afterward are just an extra layer of precautions that could help avoid problems. Everyone has the right to be informed about possible adverse side effects. Otherwise, how do we make an ‘informed’ decision??

And contrary to what a number of people have said, the fact that other medications can also cause side effects but we don’t think twice about them is NOT very persuasive. That’s like saying that highway driving is risky, we know it and still do it, and so why make a fuss about, say, jumping off a bridge because that’s risky too.

To each his own. Take the info in this post, or leave it. But come on, people – what sense does it make to shoot the messenger??

Probably wouldn’t have dreamed in a million years this would happen; probably would have taken the shot anyway. But the point is that sometimes the ‘collateral damage’ is YOU.

Well my wife and I along with my two children decided to get the vaccine about one month ago in November. My wife and kids are doing fine with no side affects so far, however I had muscle pain in my left shoulder blade and it felt like I had the creepy crawly’s on my back. Then my right eye had twitching for two weeks. I thought maybe it was just stress and that it would go away. It got worse the third week and turns out that I have a slight case of Bell’s Palsy on the right side of my face. I have trouble closing my right eye and cannot raise the right side of my mouth. My taste buds are gone on the right side as well. I’m going to have a CT scan on Monday to make sure everything is fine. I feel great other than the Paralysis, so my advise to all is to not get the H1N1 until there’s more research done on side affects. If anything else is wrong I will post another reply.

Everyone is just doing what they feel is best to protect themselves, their loved ones etc. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, try to be respectful. I think most people do a lot of research before they make such a big decision whether or not to vaccinate. And depending what you read there is a lot of convincing material to lead you either way. I chose not to vaccinate myself or my 3 children after much thorough research (including several books that were for and against vaccination). There is so much information that it is overwhelming and it is easy to just do what your told is best and hope that it is because everyone seems to be doing it and they seem fine. I challenge those people to dig a bit deeper. Whatever you choose I wish you and your families good health and balance in life.

Well, I have only known 2 people who have had the shot – they both have been really unwell after it, one is a diabetic and since he had the Swine Flu shot his sugars have gone throught the roof for no reason at all and he is very poorly !!! The other person had the seasonal flu jab in one arm and the H1N1 in the other arm – she is bed ridden – so I am not getting the shot and neither is my 18 month old I have had the seasonal shot and this year for the first time my arm swelled up after it…..over vaccinating people is dangerous in my opinion !

I had the H1N1 nasal vaccine about a week and a half ago. I was feeling fine the first couple of days, but after 3 days of the vaccine I had the following side effects: intense headaches at the lower back of my head and vomiting. 5 days later I noticed that my eyes were increasingly watery causing my vision to get blurred. On the 9th day of my vaccine, my headache lessen, but I experienced numbness on the lower right part of my mouth and my left eye was closing frequently and slowly when I blink. I didn’t realize that I had a problem until the end of the day when I looked into the mirror and tried to smile. I had the hardest time smiling since my lower right lip was numb and not functioning properly. I had an uneven and unnatural smile. My right eye has a hard time closing completely which is causing dryness, irritation, and watery eyes. I cannot even open my left eye while at the same time closing my right eye which I could previously do with ease. I checked the internet and found that I had many of the symptom of Bell’s Palsy which is the swelling and inflammation of my brain nerves which affects these facial muscles. In other words, half of my face was paralyzed. I was terrified! When I visited the doctor today, he confirmed my diagnosis as being Bell’s palsy. He said this was temporary, but my take a while to return to normal. I read that it can take 3 months to recover, but depends on the person. Only time can tell. This has dramatically affected my life. I had a difficult time talking with people as my facial expressions are unnatural. I have been stressed about my job situation where I was scheduled to be let go because of the downsizing (but fortunately gotten 3 extensions) and my mom just having surgery for her stomach cancer and now undergoing chemo and radiation. But this is definitely the icing on the cake. I worried about going on job interviews with this. When I saw that Bell’s Palsy was one of the side effects listed on this article, I had to speak out. Are there others who are experiencing the same side effects as me? I really hope this is temporary. VERY CONCERNED.

Andrew, don’t you know what a vaccine is? It’s a lesser form of the virus itself! Your body is given a taste of what to expect so that it can begin develppoing the proper antibodies. Or was that the flu shot that did that..?

If you look at the statistics you’ll see that the risk of Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS) is 1 in 100,000 based on the seasonal vaccine, and 1 in 100,000 in the general public when you get any viral illness…. That means your risk of GBS is 1 in 50,000; only slightly more than you’re at by being alive in the first place and about the same as DEATH from H1N1 or its complications.

I got the vaccine and so did my whole family. Everyone was okay exept my youngest daughter and myself. My daughter was fevered for 3 days and got a cough, rash and running nose. She is fine now. Myself got and still 3 weeks later a sore arm and spots on my legs that get sore and hot feelings. Now with reading and hearing more about side effects I wish we didn’t get the shot. I know know one who has died or even had the H1N1 flu yet. I think it is over rated.

I got the vaccine and within 12 hours began feeling sick. I had a headache with throbbing, chills, fever, fatigue, a little bit of a sore throat and soreness where i got the injection. That continued overnight to the next day and i had troubles sleeping.

There clearly is a lot of debate over this issue. I for one think that is a good thing.I just came back from icu in louisville where a friend of mine nearly died from the vaccine. Thats right two days after the vaccine she was on a ventilator. Thank god she looks like she will pull thru after nearly two weeks of an induced coma. Now I am clearly not going to have the vaccine I am certainly not going to have my grandkids injected either.Of course i asked my doctor if he was going to inject his kids and he said no. That said I believe everybody should make a personal choice. I have made mine and live or die it is in gods hands. I dont think anybody should hate me for my decision as nobody should judge those that have the vaccine. There isn’t anything wrong with the debate, however. Why would anybody be opposed to debating the issue.I love how many so called experts are on here.DM i believe your thoughts would be altered if you just went thru what i went thru with my friend. Clearly you are spreading misinformation when you say 99% of doctors would recommend this vaccine. So many on here say weigh your options and make your decision.We make life and death decisions everyday. Do I smoke? Do i Drink? Do i text and drive? All of these decisions probably are more important than this decision to get the vaccine or not.By the way,my friend was 24 years old. Good luck everybody.

Well it seems there is a recall on the vaccine in Canada because it is causing severe side effects.
Time will also tell if and what effects the large amount of squalene used as an adjuvant will have on those that received the shot.
If squalene is such a bad additive then you have to question why there is 10 times more in this vaccine than that given to the US soldiers that fought in the first Gulf war. It has been documented that squalene is probably the main reason for soldiers with “Gulf War Syndrome”.

Let’s put it this way. I have worked in the ICU and seen 23 year olds on ventilators, dieing, from this flu. Those who say it is no worse than seasonal flu, you are right. the death tolls and such are pretty much the same. But yet we still tell people who are at risk for seasonal flu to get the vaccine. The difference is that these are generally older people. Not 23 year olds. This flu effects a different population in the worst ways. Can you imagine being 23 and dieing from a simple flu that could have been prevented by a vaccine? People in other posts say that their friends who had some minor side effects feel that they were “dooped” into getting the vaccine. Get educated. You should never let anyone administer anything to you without knowing the possible side effects. This is one of the biggest problems with people these days. They don’t take responsibility for their own health. They take a pill or get a vaccine or have a procedure done without taking into account the possible adverse effects. Then they blame doctors or pharmacists or nurses for their problems. Take gastric bypass for example. There are tons of complications that can occure that will seriously make you wish you had stayed obese (like losing control of your bowel and having a colostomy for the rest of you life). Yet people just assume they can fix their weight with this easy procedure and when a complication occurs they wine about how the doctor didn’t make it clear to them as a possibility.(I am not saying that no gastric bypass is needed, just that people need to know the risks) I am sure that those people who got the vaccine were not forced to take the vaccine. They could have researched it and decided if they really needed it.
As for the mercury, yes it is a possible problem. For PREGNANT PEOPLE AND CHILDREN!!! Regular, healthy adults should be fine.
As for the guy quoting some article linking it to cancer, sorry bud, but anything these days can be linked to cancer. People still smoke.
Any of you who wrote posts against the vaccine, I would like you to look at the medications you take. Study their package inserts and see what you come up with. If all you take is natural stuff, look up the adverse effects on those things. For example, those of you who take massive amounts of Vit C, did you know that the diarrhea you experience afterward is no coincidence? But diarrhea can lead to dehydration, and you could die…..blah blah blah…
Hey alkaline person, you need to be careful. You are encouraging an already sick person to drink alkaline water! That can open up a another can of worms. Your body needs to be at a specific pH. You should no encourage people to mess with that. Especially if they are already sick. I wonder how long she had been sick before your advice stepped in. It is likely that her own immune system, you know, that thing that fights off infection, is to blame for the cure, not your natural products. You may argue that the quantity you suggested should notbe toxic, but most ignorant people will go with the theory, the more the better. Or perhaps they will just find an alkaline chemical in their cleaning supplies to make things cheaper and easier….

Anyway, I think the entire world needs to start taking responsibility for their own helath and stop being so stupid. I am sorry to those people out there who truly have had reactions to medications that have ruined their lives. I am especially sorry that people who have felt a little whoozy and tingly from a vaccine try to put themselves into that same catergory and run around trying to get attention.

I had the shot on Tuesday, after much pressuring by my medical employer. I wish I had stuck with my first thought which was to leave well alone. I get the winter shot every year and the H1N1 virus in in it. The swine flu is H1N1v. a sub group.
Tuesday evening my arm started hurting and I had nausea.
Wednesday morning i had a local reaction the size of a saucer on my arm. it was hot, swollen red and very painfull.
Thursday the swelling had increased and I felt tired
Today. sunday, the swelling has reduced somewhat, but is still very red and painfull, I need to take analgesia 4hrly. I still feel unwell, and have a sore throat,
I wish I had continued to say NO. but its too late.

If you trust your physician, whether you take or not the vaccin should be a decision based on an honest discussion with the person you usually trust with your health. All medication have side effects -e.g. birth control risk doubles your chances of stroke (amongst many others). Yet many are willing to risk it to prevent a pregnancy – adults for themselves and parents for their daughters. Each of us have diffenrent level of what they are willing to risk and we are in no way going to reach concensus here. At the end of the day, there are no right or wrong decision, everyone should make the decision they are more willingt o live with – for me it was the following quesiotns.

Which would I feel less guilt living with – complications from the flu where I went agains medical advice or complication from a vaccin that was strongly recommended by my family physician and my borother in law (who is a physician that regularly don’t like flu vaccine). Obviously I made the decision to vaccinate and our whole family did but are people who decide they don’t want to wrong. I think not! We all have to make this difficult decision, and yeah, it was difficult for me as well.

I just got vaccinated today. I ran into a friend, afterward, who said to me, ‘trust me, I had swine flu – you do not want it -
She said she had extreme nausea and violent coughing – miserable flu for a week; it was followed by bronchial illness and she’s
still trying to heal, several days later.
I am glad I decided to get the H1N1 shot, and will continue to take precautions by creating sanitary conditions around me as much
as possible. Good luck with your decision making. Hope everyone stays healthy!

I am aware of at least 5 people who have had reaction this vacine.
These people had developed a variety of symptoms post there vacination this fall. Symptoms included nausea, rashes in the arms and legs, tingling and numbness into hands and feet, lethargy, general ache. Who reports these reactions. They were not trivial to these people. One of the five is still not 100% over there reaction

By itself this may mean nothing.
But these five people would not have had this vacination had they known of the possibility of having these reactions. They feel they were duped into accepting the vacination. They were low risk people scred into taking a vacination for a disease with limited risk to them. A mistake they will not forget or readily repeat.
All of these people have since recovered from their reactions but this is just the immediate side effects.. They do not know the long term consequences of this vacine and others using squalene adjuvant. This may not be known for years.

The Endogenous Adjuvant Squalene Can Induce a Chronic T-Cell-Mediated Arthritis in Rats

Squalene is a cholesterol precursor, which stimulates the immune system nonspecifically. We demonstrate that one intradermal injection of this adjuvant lipid can induce joint-specific inflammation in arthritis-prone DA rats. Histopathological and immunohistochemical analyses revealed erosion of bone and cartilage, and that development of polyarthritis coincided with infiltration of ß+ T cells. Depletion of these cells with anti- ß TcR monoclonal antibody (R73) resulted in complete recovery, whereas anti-CD8 and anti- TcR injections were ineffective. The apparent dependence on CD4+ T cells suggested a role for genes within the major histocompatibility complex (MHC), and this was concluded from comparative studies of MHC congenic rat strains, in which DA.1H rats were less susceptible than DA rats. Furthermore, LEW.1AV1 and PVG.1AV1 rats with MHC identical to DA rats were arthritis-resistant, demonstrating that non-MHC genes also determine susceptibility. Some of these genetic influences could be linked to previously described arthritis susceptibility loci in an F2 intercross between DA and LEW.1AV1 rats (ie, Cia3, Oia2 and Cia5). Interestingly, some F2 hybrid rats developed chronic arthritis, a phenotype not apparent in the parental inbred strains. Our demonstration that an autoadjuvant can trigger chronic, immune-mediated joint-specific inflammation may give clues to the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis, and it raises new questions concerning the role of endogenous molecules with adjuvant properties in chronic inflammatory diseases.

There is a risk to H1N1 but not even as much of a risk when compared to the seasonal flu.

There is a risk to being vacinated with the H1N1 vacine. This risk can show up immediately or shortly after vacination (up to 6 weeks) and may be expressed over the long term as increased risk of developing immune related diseases.
